Great French singer-songwriter Olivier Albert Brion (ex-Dorian Grey, Yachines and Discover) will release his brand-new single "Jekyll & Hyde" as a solo project on 28th October in 2020. Let's talk about it with Olivier!

Anorak Crumble : Firstly please tell us about your former band Dorian Grey.
あなたの前身バンドDorian Greyについて教えて下さい。
Olivier : it was my first band in the end of the 80s .We were young , my brother was about 16 or 17 me 19 .years old, We played in our home town Charleville (where the great poet Arthur Rimbaud was born). We signed in a belgium Label Called Dexon. We made a single "lonely night" in 89 and an LP "Rain", in 91, We made so many gigs In france and we even played on the French national radio in famous radio Bernard Lenoir’s Broadcast the « Black sessions » .
Anorak Crumble : Your former band Yachines released two albums “My Love is a Star (1994)” and “Fancy Kane (1996)” on Pop Life United Records. Please tell us about them ? Why did you sign with Japanese Quince Records to release the compilation album "Yachines" (1998) ?
あなたの前バンドYachinesは2枚のアルバム “My Love is a Star (1994)”と“Fancy Kane (1996)”をPop Life United Recordsからリリースしました。これらのアルバムについて教えてもらえますか？何故コンピレーション・アルバムを作るために日本のQuince Recordsと契約したのですか？
Olivier : After leaving my hometown and moved to Paris, the group split up. I wrote new songs and I looked for new musicians, and on the same occasion i met my ex wife who sang in the band. Then the yachines are Born (the name was in reference to the Russian goalkeeper lev yachines golden ball in 1963 .and nicknamed the black spider). we recorded an EP "my love is star" and one LP "fancy Kane". We have done many concerts in Paris and in France including the festival « la route du rock » or « les transmusicales » . We were laureat of FAIR a (french new talent price) in 1996. Then, we signed With the japenese label Quince records which released a compilation of both albums which i really appreciate the edition. We had a lot of fun , made TV shows and radio show I think we had the chance to record modestly some good songs. And then like many music group before, we separated at the end of the nineties.
故郷を離れてパリへ引っ越しバンドは解散しました。僕は新曲を書いて新しいミュージシャンを探し、同時に僕のバンドで歌ってくれた元・妻にも出会いました。そしてyachinesが誕生しました(バンド名は、黒蜘蛛というニックネームで1963年にゴールデン・ボール賞を取ったロシアのゴールキーパーlev yachineから)。僕達はEP "my love is star"をレコーディングしLP "fancy Kane" を作りました。« la route du rock » や « les transmusicales »といったフェスティバル含みパリやフランスで沢山のコンサートをしました。1996年にはFAIRの新人賞の受賞者となりました。その後、日本のQuince recordsと契約し二枚のアルバムのコンピレーションをリリース、このエディションに感謝しています。とても楽しいことが沢山ありました。TVショウやラジオ番組に出たり、良い曲をレコーディングする機会にも恵まれていたと思います。そして多くのグループ同様に、僕達は90年代終わりに解散しました。
Anorak Crumble : Your former band Discover released two albums “High Life (2002)” and “California Songs (2004)” on Xll Bis Records. Please tell us about them ?
あなたの全バンドDiscoverは二枚のアルバム“High Life (2002)”と “California Songs (2004)” を Xll Bis Recordsからリリースしましたね？これらについて教えて下さい。
Olivier : I left a little time before making two albums under the name "discover" for the label 13 bis records. The album "California songs" was already in reality a solo album . I really enjoyed doing it because we had a good production. The single "Gena Rowlands" appearing on several French radio stations .Actress and director Julie Delpy was kind enough to come and sing on the album and I shared the cover of the great french « Magic RPM » with the girls of Nouvelle Vague in the summer of 2004.
13 bis recordsから"discover"名義で二枚のアルバムを作る前に僕はバンドから少し離れていました。アルバム"California songs"は既にソロ・アルバムのリアリティーがありました。良いプロダクションだったので、とてもエンジョイしました。シングル"Gena Rowlands"はいくつかのフランスのラジオ局で紹介されました。女優でディレクターのJulie Delpyが来てアルバムの曲を歌わないかと親切にしてくれて、2004年の夏にフランスの偉大な« Magic RPM »誌でNouvelle Vagueの女の子達と一緒に表紙となりました。
Anorak Crumble : Your brand-new single "Jekyll & Hyde" will be out on Potomac Records in 2020. Is this your solo project? Please tell us about it?あなたのニュー・シングル"Jekyll & Hyde"はPotomac Recordsから今年2020年にリリース予定ですね？これはソロ・プロジェクトなのでしょうか？教え下さい。
Olivier : Indeed, the single "jekyll & hyde" is from my new EP "Potomac" to be released at the end of this month(october 28th). It includes songs that I have recorded and written in recent years. The songs are essentially written in French.
IT will be followed by another : "Home", which is rather written and sang in English. This one was written during the quarantine and recorded this summer. Two parts to make one …

Anorak Crumble : When did you start to listen to indie pop music ? What band/artists are you influenced by ? What bands/artists do you listen to at the moment ?
いつ頃からインディ・ポップを聴き始めましたか？どのようなバンド / アーティストに影響を受けていますか？どのようなバンド / アーティストを聴いていますか？
Olivier : I started listening to indie in the early 80's on French radio through the broadcasts of bernard lenoir that's how I discovered new order everything but the girl the style councils the cure pale fountains the smiths etc.
but my love at the first sight in music was the bealtes on my parent ’s hifi. and later I discovered the beach boys , and all the Californian bands. And after the folk singers Simon & Garfunkel Dylan, Nick Drake, Carole king, the carpenters …
When i was a teenager, i also like the french Artist like serge Gainsbourg, Yves Simon , Leo ferré ,the movie of Jacques Demy and the soundtrack of michel Legrand
I listen to a lot of different things in different styles as well. It goes from jazz to electro through pop, folk, hiphop 60 & 70 ’s French variety or classsical music.I subscribed to a lot of channel on you tube especially in Japan. The play exellent lofi remix .All over the
world ,there is a lot of Young Artist very interessting too. Sometimes I think I'd like to have 20 years old right now.
bernard lenoirのラジオ番組を通して80年代の初めにインディを聴き始めました。new order, everything but the girl, the style councils, the cure, pale fountains, the smithsなどを見つけました。だけど最初に好きになったのは僕の両親が聴いていたbealtesで、その後にthe beach boysとカリフォルニアのバンド達、 そしてフォーク・シンガー達Simon & Garfunkel, Dylan, Nick Drake, Carole king, the carpenters …僕が十代の頃はフランスのアーティストも聴いていました、serge Gainsbourg, Yves Simon , Leo ferré ,the movie of Jacques Demy and the soundtrack of michel Legrand…違ったスタイルの音楽も聴いていました、ジャズからエレクトロ、ポップ、フォーク、ヒップホップ、60 & 70年代のフランスの色んなクラシカルな音楽も。特に日本のyou tubeチャンネルを沢山観ています。エクセレントなlo-fiリミックスをプレイしています。とても興味深い沢山の若いアーティストも世界中に存在しています。時々、自分が20才になれたらなと思うことがあります。
Anorak Crumble : How is your life in France ? Are there any good record labels, clubs, etc ?
フランスでの生活はどんな感じですか？良いレーベルやクラブはありますか？
Olivier : I live in Paris in the 9th arrondissement, I love my city but with the covid crisis things have changed a lot and suddenly the clubs have closed, we go out little . However two examples of places I like : a bar record store where i played « The walrus »and a speakeasy « the lili white drinking club » both in my neighborhood To be honest, my pleasure is to take my bike and to cross the city of lights listening to good music . I made a tracklist for each bike trip…

僕は今パリの9自治区に住んでいます。この街が大好きですが、コロナのせいで変わってしまいました。クラブも閉鎖したのであまり行けなくなりました。僕が好きなのはバー・レコード・ストアの « The walrus »や« the lili white drinking club » で、僕はここで演奏しています。近所にあってバイクで行けるから嬉しいし、良い音楽が聴けます。このバイク・トリップの為にトラックリストも作りました。次のインタビューで…僕のトラックリスト作ってくれますか(笑)。
