The Best Is Yet To Come (2005)", "A Real Life Drama (2006)", "Keeping Up Appearances (2008)"をSkipping Stone Recordsからリリースしましたね。

■Your latest band The Britannicas with Joe Algeri who is a Finnish musician on Rhythm Barrel Records sounds like more power pop. Are you influenced by power pop bands ? or what kind of bands / artists do you listen to ?

Magnus Karlsson : The first album was recorded 1989/1990 in the south of Sweden in a small place called Klippan, which used to be a punkrock-center in the late 70s and 80s. We flew down slept in the studio in sleeping bags. The second album was recorded in Stockholm, May 1993. I remember there was a heat wave that same week. The summer peaked in early May. I used to live nearby the studio so I could walk there. The third one was recorded in Stockholm as well. We had a big budget. Money came from Polydor Japan and a major Swedish company. We could enjoy many weeks of recording and mixing. It felt pretty relaxing. So it was the complete opposite to the first album. We could also bring in guest musicians, arrangers and vocalists.

Magnus Karlsson : Happydeadmen sort of disbanded quietly in 2001/2002. No hard feelings, just fed up. We realized that we could never compete with the new generation  Swedish indie-scene. Things had changed a lot since the late '80s. People would only remember us for the ealy stuff anyway. I learned the art of homerecording. In 2004 I met up with Mikael from Red Sleeping Beauty at a party where I was DJ:ing. After a cople of drinks we formed a band. I thought it was just drunk talk, but he came back to me with a demo. I wrote the lyrics to his backgrounds and contributed with my own songs that I had written since the demise  of happydeadmen. Mikael's wife Ingela (The Shermans) took on the vocals and we recorded an album. Through friends of friends we came across Skipping Stones Records in New England. They released the first album, The Best Is Yet To Come in 2005. It became pretty successful in the small world cause it sold out. We were offered tours and festivals in Europe, but we had kids to take care of. The next album was the best one in my opinion. The third one was ok, but we had shelved The Charade project by then. The goal was to release three albums.

The Best Is Yet To Come"を2005年にリリースした。

Magnus Karlsson : The Britannicas was for the project of the other guys, I jumped on after a while and we finished an album in 2010. USA, Australia and Sweden recording together was pretty cool. I still haven't met the bass player Herb in real life. We recorded another album High Tea on three continents, which I'm very proud of.

Anorak Crumble : When did you start to listen to indie pop music ?

Magnus Karlsson : Indie pop has been a part of my life since the '80s. I remember receiving a mixtape in 1987 that changed my life. I had listened to the Smiths since 1984 by then. I pretty much enjoy that type of music still but in addition a lot more. I listen to new music and old music. I'm always curious. Power pop is just one of many styles I enjoy.

Anorak Crumble :  You experienced the gig as Happydeadmen in the 90's in Japan. Are you going to play gigs near future ?

Magnus Karlsson : Gigs in the future. Happydeadmen was never really a live band, but we gradually became better and tighter. By the time we were really good it was time to say goodbye. As I said we will be remembered for the early stuff. With my latest band Small Imperfections we aim to become a true live act. We are experienced muscians and love playing live. We include Charade-songs in our set list and will release one soon.

Harvey Williams Another Sunny Day Interview (2009)

In 2009 I had an interview with Harvey Williams of Another Sunny Day !  He forgive me to publish this interview for Anorak Crumble webzine ! Here's the Engliish / Japanese text.

Another Sunny Day was formed in 1987 by Harvey Williams  and released the album "London Weekend (1992)" on Sarah Records. He released two albums "Rebellion (Sarah Records / 1994)" and "California (Shinkansen Recordings / 1999)" as a solo.

2009年にAnother Sunny DayのHarvey Williams氏にインタビューしました!

■Why did you start Another Sunny Day ?

Harvey Williams : Firstly I have to tell you Another Sunny Day wasn't the band.  In 1987 I tried to form the band with my friends but I  couldn't. It's me who wrote songs and play instruments. It seemed smarter than a solo project and made it look like a band (The indie scene always prefers bands to solo acts). I started Another Sunny Day because everybody started to write songs and play at that time,  for the same reason as others...absolute love for pop and desire to offer.

■How did you  sign to Sarah Records ?

Sarah Records

Harvey Williams :  I signed without a contract with Sarah Records. It's suitable because we were tied on the basis of friendship and trust. They paid for my recording and the profit paid only once in fifty fifty,  very simple !  I could  leave the label  if I  have no song but why do you want it ?

■What kind of bands were you playing with at that time?

Harvey Williams :  Not so many gigs because Another Sunny Day was a solo project.  Sometimes I asked  Bob and  Michael  of The Field Mice to play with. In fact in my first gig we played half and half, The Field Mice and Another Sunny Day songs.  In my short French tour  Matthew of The Orchids helped me as a extra guitarist.  A few days later Julian Henry of The Hit Parade joined my show as an additional guitarist.

半分はThe Field Mice、半分はAnother Sunny Day…

■What kind of bands / artists are you influenced by ?

Harvey Williams  : I think it's exactly what you expected. Biff Bang Pow!, Jasmine Minks, Primal Scream (their songs "It Happens” and “Velocity Girl” are really wonderful. I wondered if it would sound like that.) on Creation Records, and the bands of same generation as me like The June Brides, Razorcuts, McCarthy...

■I have been your fan ever since I listened to your song "You Should All Be Murdered". What do you think about The Smiths ?

You Should All Be Murrdered"を聴いた時、THE SMITHSにソックリだなぁと感激して、あなたのファンになりました。

Harvey Williams  : In the early 80's  The Smiths were supported by teenagers (like me) who were dissatisfied with the government. It was a true education, both musically and culturally. They were the gateway to a whole new world. I would have been a completely different person if The Smiths didn't exist.

■In the liner-notes for the Cherry Red edtion CD :  It's written the song "You Should All Be Murdered" was a sign of anger and frustration ?

You Should All  Be Murdered"は、“怒りやフラストレーションの表れだ”と書かれていましたが?

Harvey Williams  :  Frustration,  exactly. Anger, sometimes. It was a dark time, politically and culturally and for the people. That's why The Smiths raised the bonfire of hope. I didn't even want to be a part of the mainstream and never expected. That's why I was angry and frustrated.

■Why did you titled  "London Weekend"  for the album?

Harvey Williams  :  There's a independent TV company  which was called "London Weekend Television" in the 70's and 80's. They always used phraze like : grammar and excite (London !!)  &  freedom and good times (weekend !!) . It was a reminder of my youth, spent watching TV for hours.

■At that time, was there something like an indie pop scene ?  Were  they called "popkid" or  "cutie", not "twee" ?

Harvey Williams : At that time "twee" wasn't used to describe the indie pop scene (but I noticed it was written for the reviews in the booklets !). "popkid” & “cutie” were used sometimes and we were "Sarah" bands, not "cutie" and "shambling".  I was just happy to be criticized...but I always think Another Sunny Day is a punk rock group.

■How's your life during the activity period of Another Sunny Day, from the late 80's to the early 90's ?

Harvey Williams :  My life had changed a lot. I worked in London, studied at school  again and graduated. I lose my job and came back to my parents in Penzance. I came back to London again and I got job. I remember it was not enjoyable when I lose my job. It was the most songwriting time of my life. I wrote two or three songs a week. Now I write two songs a year...

■What did / do you think about the British administration / government at that time?

Harvey Williams : I am always a supporter of the Labor Party, especially in the 80's. Neil Kinnock was the last Labor leader. I hated Thatcher and everything she did.

■Did you toured with Josh Gennet from US indie pop band Holiday in 1999 ?

Harvey Williams : Holiday ? I had some shows with Josh in New York, Sweden and London, too. He is a talented and good guy.

「Holiday?Josh

■What kind of music do you listen to ?

Harvey Williams : Not often but I like to dig oldies like Kraftwerk, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, obscure stuff, especially...

KRAFTWERK、THE BEACH BOYS、THE BEATLES、オブスキュアなのは特には…。」

■Are you releasing the new album as a solo or  new band ?

Harvey Williams : My songwriting doesn't come out naturally as I wanted to see before but I still write new songs from time to time.
