  1. After leaving Art School in 1982 I moved to Hove for a few years and was lucky enough to share a flat with an Art Student called Clare. I was used to Clare bringing home lots of boys and girls to the flat as she was a bright and popular girl who was very "Up" with the Zetgeist...she introduced me to "Soul Mining" by THE THE for instance (for which I am eternally grateful) but one particular day I heard a beautiful voice wafting acapella from the living room.....it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end and sent a shiver down my spine. This beautiful voice belonged to this extremely pretty, Mohican haired Goth called Jo Bourne who was one half of the Queue Dance with Nick Goddard.

The Queue Dance played gigs regularly in Brighton and I always enjoyed their shows. I loved my time in East Sussex but moved to London for my career and the thing I treasure most from my time there is a cassette of Four Songs that Jo gave me. "Look to the Fairground", "Way of Living", "Far Deeper" (my favourite) and "Stop it". My girlfriend at the time and I would sing these songs and they have become an integral part of my musical landscape.
I always wondered why they never made it big...I've always prided myself on spotting talents that became stars, U2, Everything But the Girl etc and Queue Dance should be up there. I think "Far Deeper" is one of the best songs ever... Maybe it was marketing, image, timing...all I know is that "Not the One for me" their only single was not indicative of their talent...it was ok but nothing more. Maybe that was their only chance and they, like so many talented artists became a band loved by a select few when it should have been many.
