Andrew Burnett, from famous and terrific scottish band Close Lobsters, kindly accepted to answer some questions for Anorak Crumble ! The band just released last month a new album through Shelflife Records and Last Night From Glasgow Records : "Post Neo Anti : Arte Povera in the Forest of Symbols". Let's talk about it and about Close Lobsters' history ! Interview with Toshiko !
有名で凄いスコティッシュ・バンドClose LobstersのAndrew Burnett氏が、ご親切にも我らがAnorak Crumbleウェブジンの為にインタビューに答えて頂きました！バンドは先月ニュー・アルバム:

Anorak Crumble : About the band and C86 : please tell us about Close Lobsters history for those who may not already know about your band ? Please tell us about your past albums "Foxheads Stalk This Land" and "Headache Rhetoric"... are
there any kind of unique episodes or something like that ?
バンドとC86シーンについて: まだ知られていないClose Lobstersの歴史と、過去のアルバム"Foxheads Stalk This Land"と"Headache Rhetoric"について教えて下さい。面白いエピソードなどはありましたか？
Andrew Burnett : Close Lobsters formed circa 1985 in Glasgow's outer suburbs. We played relentlessly for several years before going to play in London and all of a sudden we got into the music papers with gig reviews ! At the time the NME decided to celebrate a new breed called C86. Our friends The June Brides didn’t want to go on the cassette but recommended us. The rest is history.
We now have three formal albums - the new one is the definitely the best one !
Close Lobstersは約1985年にグラスゴー郊外で結成されました。僕達はロンドンへ演奏しに行く何年か前にプレイしていて、突然、音楽新聞のギグ・レビューに載りました。当時、NMEはC86と呼ばれる新しいバンド達を絶賛していました。僕達の友達The June Bridesはカセットに参加したくなかったけれども、僕達を推薦してくれました。後に歴史的なものとなりました。僕達は三枚のアルバムを作りました。新作は絶対的にベストなものだよ！
Anorak Crumble : What is the best song of Close Lobsters ? I love "Never Seen Before" and "In Spite Of These Times" especially.
Close Lobstersの曲のなかで一番好きな曲は何ですか？個人的には、"Never Seen Before" and "In Spite Of These Times" が特に好きです。
Andrew Burnett : My current personal favourites are "My Days Are Numbered" and "The Days Run Away". "A Prophecy" is good.
僕の現在の個人的なフェイバリットは、‘My Days Are Numbered’ と‘The Days Run Away’です。‘A Prophecy’ も良いです。
Anorak Crumble : Why did you join the NME C86 compilation ?
何故NMEのコンピレーションC86に参加したのですか？
Andrew Burnett : See above. Thanks to our friends The June Brides. And because we are shameless exhibitionists !

Anorak Crumble : Can you tell us about C86 scene ?
C86シーンについて教えて頂けますか？
Andrew Burnett : I’m afraid I don’t know much about it. There was a scene in Glasgow once that coalesced around some ‘Happenings’ in a place called Daddy Warbucks in Glasgow. That was the Glasgow version of that scene but it seemed to be a much bigger national
thing. Great bands like Wire and The Loft played there for example. To me it’s a very loose coalition of folks with post-punk sensibilities.
恐縮だけど良く知りません。Daddy Warbucksも呼ばれる場所(ライブ・ハウス) で、いくつかの"ハプニング"が合体したようなグラスゴーのシーンが、かつてありました。それが(C86)シーンのグラスゴー・バージョンでしたが、国内のものと同じくらい大きなもののようでした。例えばWireやThe Loftみたいに偉大なバンドか居たので。ポスト・パンクのセンシビリティーを持ったバンド達が集まっていました。
Anorak Crumble : How was the Scottish indie pop scene in the 80's - 90's ? What bands/artists did you play gigs with ? What bands/artists are you influenced by ?
80～90年代のスコットランドのインディ・ポップ・シーンはどんな感じでしたか？どんなバンドと一緒にギグを行いましたか？どんなバンドに影響を受けましたか？
Andrew Burnett : We played mostly with English and Irish bands – The Wedding Present, The June Brides, and That Petrol Emotion. These days I remain heavily influenced by Bob Dylan and Frank Ocean and Television and Underground House music.
大部分は、The Wedding PresentやThe June BridesやThat Petrol Emotionといったイングランドやアイルランドのバンド達と演奏しました。当時はBob DylanやFrank OceanやTelevisionやアンダーグラウンドなハウス・ミュージックに多大な影響を受けていました。
Anorak Crumble : About the new album "Post Neo Anti" and more : the record sleeve is very impressive. What does it mean ?
ニュー・アルバム"Post Neo Anti"について : レコード・スリーブがとても印象的です。何を意味するのですか？
Andrew Burnett : It is a reflection on determination and getting things done, despite the many obstacles placed in the way, against the grain. Forever, Until Victory !
決定と物事を成し遂げることを反映したものです。にも関わらず、沢山の障害物があります。勝利まで永遠に…フォーエバー・アンティル・ビクトリー！
Anorak Crumble : Are there any concepts on this new album ?
このアルバムのコンセプトはありますか？
Andrew Burnett : The concepts are all in the lyrics - the title and subtitle allude to issues of profound disorientation and complexity. "All Compasses Go Wild" speaks to the current malaise of the world.
The album is an exegesis against the shameless cynicism of the ruling world order.
コンセプトは全ての歌詞にあります…タイトルとサブ・タイトルは、深い問題をほのめかしたものです。"All Compass Go Wild"は、世の中の現在の倦怠感について歌っています。
ニュー・アルバムの歌詞について教えて下さい。
Andrew Burnett : The lyrics look for a way home outside of the shameless cynicism of the existing world order.
既存の世界秩序の恥知らずな皮肉に対抗したものです。
Anorak Crumble : Why did you contract with Shelflife Records ?
アメリカのShelflife Recordsと契約したのは何故ですか？
Andrew Burnett : I met Ed from Shelflife Records in Brooklyn at the NYC Popfest of 2013. We had lunch and agreed to do some records. It was lovely and productive. The new album is co-release between Last Night From Glasgow Records and Shelflife Records.
2013年にブルックリンのNYCポップフェスでShelflife RecordsのEdと会いました。ランチを食べてレコードを作ることに了解しました。ニュー・アルバムはLast Night From GlasgowとShelflife Recordsとの共同リリースです。
Anorak Crumble : What bands/artists do you listen to nowadays ?
現在はどんなバンドやアーティストを聴いていますか？
Andrew Burnett : The last thing I have listened to today is a track called "Science Beat" by a group called Have a Nice Life. Our "All Compasses Go Wild" cover star Silvia played it in her car when I visited Verona recently. It is a quite magnificent track.
We have also recently been introduced to many new great groups on our record label Last Night From Glasgow. I also really like East Village and The Church Grims. Bob Dylan's new track "Murder Most Foul" is awesome. Johan Johannsen. Immense. Psychic TV "Godstar" has been played quite a lot recently too.
Have A Nice Lifeっていうグループの"Science Beat"という曲。僕達のシングル"All Compass Go Wild"のカバー・スターSilviaは、Veronaの所へ訪れた時に、車の中でこの曲を演奏しました。とても素晴らしいトラックです。僕達のレーベルLast Night From Glasgowで沢山の新しいバンドを紹介しています。East VillageやThe Church Grimsも大好きです。Bob Dylanの新曲"Murder Most
Foul"も凄く良いです。Johan Johannsenも素晴らしいです。Psychic TV "Godstar"も最近よくプレイしています。
Anorak Crumble : Fabien was lucky to see you playing for the Madrid Popfest a few years ago and you were fantastic ! Do you enjoy to play live ?
ファビアンは幸運にも何年か前に、マドリッド・ポップフェスで貴方のギグを観ました。ファンタスティックでした！ライブは好きですか？
Andrew Burnett : Yeah, that was a terrific show ! The first one we played since 1991. Everything just seems to come together in a pent-up release. It was tremendous. Madrid remains one of the best gigs we have ever played. Yeah, we love to play live.
イエス、あれは凄いショウでした。1991年以来、初のプレイでした。鬱積した気持ちを解放しました。途方もないことでした。マドリッドは今までプレイした中でベストなギグの一つです。ライブをするのは大好きです。
Anorak Crumble : Are you going to play gigs in the near future ?
近々プレイする予定はありますか？
Andrew Burnett : Remarkably we were in the process of scheduling some shows in Tokyo for November 2020 but unfortunately due to current events this will now have to be postponed. Hopefully we can make it to Tokyo someday.
2020年の11月に東京でいくつかのショウを行う予定でしたが延期しなければならないだろう。いつの日にか東京へ行けたら良いです。
Anorak Crumble : Have you got any future plans ? Message for your fans, please !
