Anorak Crumble : The tribute Sarah Records compilation album "Our Secret World" was released on your label in 2015. I am very happy to know Chinese people listen to Sarah Records ! When did you start to listen to indie pop music ?

あなたのレーベルからSarah Recordsトリビュート・アルバム"Our Secret World"が2015年にリリースされましたね。中国にもSarah Recordsを聴いている人が居ると判り幸せです！いつ頃からSarah Recordsみたいなインディ・ポップを聴き始めましたか？

Jovi : When I was about 16 years old, I began to listen shoegaze music such as MBV and Slowdive, and naturally turned to C86 / indie pop. My band Butterbeer at that time wrote a song called "Listening to another sunny day makes me forget you". After rehearsing and returning to school, I thought, "this year is just the 20th anniversary of the end of Sarah records. Why don't we make a tribute ?" So I contacted some of our friends, and some Chinese band might like Sarah, and asked them if they would like to participate in the compilation.

16才の時に、My Bloody ValentineやSlowdive、C86 / indie pop を振り返った音楽やシューゲイズ・ミュージックを聴き始めました。僕のバンドButterbeerは当時、“Listening to Another Sunny Day Makes Me Forget You”っていう曲を書いたんだ。リハーサルの後で学校の帰り道に、"今年はSarah Recordsが終わって20周年の日だ"と思って、トリビュートを作ろうかと。それで僕は、コンピレーションの為に、友達のバンドやSarahが好きな中国のバンドに訊いてみたんだ。

Anorak Crumble : Please tell us about the story of birth of Boring Productions. Why did you decided to start label ?

Boring Productionsの誕生ストーリーを教えて下さい。何故レーベルをスタートすると決めたのですか？

Jovi : My friends and I loved a label called Full Label in Guangzhou at that time, They have an indie pop band called Yourboyfriendssucks !, they are very DIY, and they do a lot of interesting things. They perform in toilets, roadsides, friends' homes and bookstores, and their publications are also very interesting. For example, they will publish 12 songs in an album all the same, and they will publish things like fanzine and floppy disk. They've changed their name to "Qiii Snacks Records" and it's great too ! Their spirit of "doing what I want to do" inspires me and makes me feel that I can do it, so I decided to make my own label. When I starting Boring Productions, label like Sarah records, Postcard Records and Cloudberry Records have inspired me a lot.

僕の友達とフル・レーベルのことが好きな人達で広州市に集まって、yourboyfriendssucks !っていうインディ・ポップ・バンドが居て。とてもDIYで、彼らは面白いことをやっていた。トイレや道脇や友達の家や本屋で演奏したり、彼らが発表したものは面白かった。例えば、1つのアルバム12曲全部を一度に作ったり、ファンジンやフロッピー・ディスクも発売する予定。彼らは名前をQiii Snacks Recordsと変えた、グレイトだよ！"やりたいことをやる"スピリットにインスパイアされてやれると思ったので、自分のレーベルを始めた。Boring Productionsを始めた時は、Sarah Records, Postcard Records, Cloudberry Recordsから多大な影響を受けたよ。

Jovi : Let me try to introduce some of the bands you mentioned.
A Hidden Trace: solo project of Chinese football's guitarist Xu Bo (he lives in Kyoto now as far as I know).
Teenage Riot : they're from my favorite Harbour Records in Hong Kong. They've published two great indie rock / pop records
Fuhn : there used to be an indie pop band called Pocketmonster in Guangzhou, Fuhn was the guitarist. Fuhn's wrote a song in the Sarah Records tribute, and his guitar solo was sample from Gentle Despite !
Butterbeer : This is my indie pop band and Chestnut Bakery's vocal Rye. They released a record in Boring Productions.
Atta Girl : This is my band with Milkmustache lead singer Jonny, who has released an album and a 7-inch record in Boring Productions.
Mikmustache : This is a shoegaze band from Shenzhen. They released an EP in Boring Productions
Chestnut Bakery : an indie pop / shoegaze band , released an album and a 7-inch record in Boring Productions.
Yourboyfriendssucks ! : one of my favorite bands ! They just released a new EP in Qiii Snacks Records.
Thin City : This is a Shenzhen band. The four members are from different countries. The guitarist Graham is from Glasgow. His previous band also made records in the Slumberland Records.
Glue, 洪申豪 : they all come from a band called Touring Magazine (it seems quite famous in Japan).

A Hidden Trace : 中国のサッカーのギタリストXu Bo (彼は今、京都に住んでいる)
Teenage Riot: they're : 香港のお気に入りレーベルHarbour Recordsのバンドで、2枚のインディ・ロック・ポップ・レコードをリリースした。
Fuhn : 最初は広州市のPocketmonsterというバンドだった。Fuhnはギタリストだった。Sarahのトリビュートの為に曲を書いて、彼のギター・ソロはGentle Dispiteのサンプルだった！
Butterbeer : これは僕のインディ・ポップ・バンドでChestnut BakeryのボーカルRyeが居る。
Boring Productionsからレコードをリリースした。
Atta girl : Boring Productionsからアルバムと7インチを出した、Milkmustacheのリード・シンガーJohnnyと一緒にやってる僕のバンド。
Mikmustache : 深せん出身のシューゲイズ・バンド。
Chestnut Bakery : インディ・ポップ / シューゲイズ・バンド。Boring Productionsからアルバムと7インチ・レコードをリリースした。
Yourboyfriendssucks! : 僕のお気に入りバンドの1つ。Qiii Snacks Recordsから新しいEPをリリースしたばかり。
Thin City : 深せんのバンド。4人のメンバーはそれぞれ違った国に住んでいる。ギタリストのGrahamはグラスゴー出身。彼の全バンドはSlumberland Recordsからレコードを出していた。
Glue, 洪申豪 : Touring Magazineというバンドのメンバーによるバンド(日本でとても有名)。

Anorak Crumble : How is your life in ShenZhen China ? Are there any good record labels, clubs, etc ?

中国の深せんでの生活はどんな感じですか？良いレーベルやクラブはありますか？

Jovi : Shenzhen is a beautiful coastal city, and the food is very rich and delicious. My friend and I like to meet at a record store called Puppet Fat Records. If it's a venue, you must not miss B10.

深せんは美しい沿岸の街で、食べ物が豊富で美味しいよ。僕の友達とPuppet Fat Recordsというレコード屋さんで待ち合わせするのが好き。ライブハウスなら、B10を見逃してはいけない。

Anorak Crumble : What are your favourite bands of all time ?

あなたのお気に入りのバンドは？

Jovi : It's a very difficult problem, but I have these bands shows in my head immediately : Guided by Voices, The Wedding Present (Atta Girl once toured with them), Teenage Fanlcub, Stereolab, East Village, Yourboyfriendsucks !, Brighter, Blueboy, Trembling Blue Stars ,Half Japanese.

難しい問題だけど、僕の頭の中に、これらのバンドのショウが思い浮かんでくるよ  : Guided By Voices, The Wedding Present (Atta Girlは以前彼らとプレイした), Teenage Fanclub, Stereolab, East Village, Yourboyfriendsucks !, Brighter, Blueboy, Trembling Blue Stars, Half Japanese.

Anorak Crumble : Can you tell us about future releases ?

今後のリリース予定を教えて下さい。

Jovi : I will have some new release from Butterbeer, Atta Girl, Acoustic Radiation Force.

Butterbeer, Atta Girl, Acoustic Radiation Forceのニュー・リリース予定があるよ。

Anorak Crumble : What do you think about indie pop all around the world at the moment ?

現在の世界中のインディ・ポップについて、どう思いますか？

Jovi : I think it's good every day ! I find a lot of great indie pop records in bandcamp. Labels like Elefant, Shelflife, Firestation, Cloudberry are still publishing great records, and some of the old indie pop label like Sunday records, A Turntable Friend are reborn. I am also a big fan of Make Me Happy from Greece and Kleine Untergrund Schallplatten from Germany.

とても良いと思います。毎日、bandcampで沢山のインディ・ポップ・バンドを見つけることが出来るし、Elefant, Shelflife, Firestation, Cloudberryは今でもリリースしているし、古いインディ・ポップ・レーベルSunday RecordsやA Turntable Friendあたりもね。ギリシャのMake Me HappyやドイツのKleine Untergrund Schallplattenレーベルも好きです。
