Anorak Crumble : Please tell us about the story of birth of Fadeawayradiate Records. Why did you decided to start label ?
Fadeawayradiate Recordsの誕生ストーリーを教えて下さい。何故レーベルをスタートすると決めたのですか？
Stella : I never did. It kind of happened. One moment I am talking about Sophistipop covers with Ole Aleskjaer of The Loch Ness Mouse, who suggested doing a Scritti Politti tribute as a joke... Next thing I proposed doing cover comp on my Sophistipop Lounge group on FB, and lots of people reacting, wanting to contribute. It was done in six months time. I only started a label page on Bandcamp so we could put it there and make it a free download thing.
何もしていないわ。ハプニングみたいなものだったの。The Loch Ness MouseのOle Aleskjaerと、冗談でScritti Polittiのトリビュートをやらないかと提案して、Sophistipopのカバーについて話していた時だったわ。そしてFacebookの私のSophistipop Lounge Groupでカバー曲コンピへの参加をお願いしていたら、沢山の人達から反応があって。参加したいって。やるのに6カ月かかったわ。Bandcampでレーベル・ページをやりたかっただけだったの。それでフリー・ダウンロードみたいなことが出来たから。
Apple Crumble : Please tell us about your band Nah... ? Are you planning to release a new album ?
あなたのバンドNah... について教えて下さい。ニュー・アルバムのリリース予定はありますか？
Stella : Nah... actually started as a result from that Sophistipop cover comp. Sebastian, who has a solo project called The Fisherman and His Soul, was doing a cover and we got talking. At some point he had a song and since he knew that I did some backing for The Loch Ness Mouse/Tenant From Zero cover on the comp, he asked me to consider doing something for a song he had in the making. I did, and Kenji Kenji also joined into that song, and we had such fun that we decided to maybe do a single. The single became an EP and so on ! We were/are quite surprised at the reception of Nah... which was mainly a fun thing. We are no youngsters anymore and are probably never going to be live band. We only just met once ! We are releasing an album (12 tracks by the looks of it), and were very fortunate to be approached by Shelflife Records. It is postponed to september now due to Corona circumstances but it will be the crown on Sebastian’s 25 year long music-hobby efforts ! We will release a new single on june 12th to bridge the gap.
Nah...は実際、Sophistipopカバー・コンピレーションの為にスタートしたバンドなの。The Fisherman and His Soulというソロ・プロジェクトやってるSebastianは、Sophistipopのカバー・コンピに参加してくれて、話したの。このカバー・コンピで私がThe Loch Ness Mouseと Tenant From Zeroのカバーでバッキング・ボーカルをしていたのを彼は知っていて。彼が作った曲で歌わないかって。Kenji Kenjiもコンピのその曲に参加したけど、シングルを作ろうって。楽しかったわ。シングルはEPなどになっているわよ！Nah...をやることは楽しいこと。私達は若く無いし、多分ライブはやらないけど。私達は一度会ったきりなのよ！12トラックのニュー・アルバムをShelflife Recordsからリリースする予定です。コロナで9月に延期となりましたが、Sebastianの25年間の長い音楽嗜好が表れたものになるでしょう！ニユー・シングルも6月12日にリリースする予定です。

このうちの、"Reserve Play : C86 Re (dis) covered"と"I Remember That ! (12 Sophistipop Tunes Quoted Out Of Context)"は全てカバー・ソングが収録されています、何故ですか？
Stella : Good Question. As I explained above, the covers started as a fun thing. People seem quite keen on doing them out of love for that particular style of music, and also because it is fun to be connected to other musicians that share that love. The connection of bands also make the bands get a wider coverage, so in that sense it is good promotion. It makes people that are fans of this or that band, start listening to other bands on the comp etc. But the cover thing is quite complicated because there are copyrights involved. So you cannot do much more with it than free digital downloads. This was the main reason for doing originals on the last F.A.R. Out comp, it made the options for physical release a bit more possible. It was a great success in the end, but the making proved much, much more of an effort than the covers. Also, it got complicated as to how to distribute revenue/copies over 14 bands etc. So this year we are back at a cover comp : very low key, much fun ! We are about to release a Yacht Rock cover comp called Cruise Control, in june.
良い質問ね。さっき述べたように、楽しく熱心にカバー(コンピ)を始めたわ。バンド間のコネクションが生まれて、愛を分かち合って。バンドの宣伝～プロモーションにもなったし、コンピで他のバンド達も聴き始めたわ。だけどカバーは複雑で…何故なら著作権が関与してしまうから。なのでデジタル・フリー・ダウンロードよりも、より多くのことは出来なかった。これが、オリジナルをやるF.A.R. Outコンピの原因となりました。物的なリリースが少し可能になった。最終的には成功したけれど、かなり努力したわ。どのようにディストリビュートして、14バンドの為の収益を得るか等々。今年はカバー・コンピに戻って、６月にCruise Controlというウエスト・コーストのカバー・コンピを作る予定。
Anorak Crumble : How is your life in Netherlands ? Are there any good record labels, clubs, etc ?
オランダでの生活はどんな感じですか？良いレーベルやクラブはありますか？
Stella : It’s fine. There is an indie life, but much more directed at mainstream/danceable indie, more or less a student thing nowadays. No real niches or subcultures, like in the 90's, which is a shame. We have a few nice bands here though.
良いわよ。インディ・ライフがあるわ。だけどメインストリーム / ダンサブルなインディ、学生のようなことのほうが多いけれど。90年代のようなサブカルチャーは無いわ。いくつか良バンドか居るわよ。
Anorak Crumble : When did you start to listen to indie pop music ?
いつ頃からインディ・ポップを聴き始めましたか？
Stella : This is a bit weird maybe, but I didn’t grow up listening to alternative music. I was a bit of a disco kid, that was always out and about in the disco's of Amsterdam in the 80's when I was a teenager. At home I listened to Sophistipop, Yacht Rock and Kate Bush, etc. I got into indie when the rave scene started at the end of the 80's and indie became a "proper" thing. At the edge of the Mock Turtles, The Milltown Brothers and Airhead, I suddenly heard Slowdive and a whole new world/era opened up. I immersed deeply into Shoegaze and its scene for years and from there it shifted to Britpop, on to Triphop, Lounge and Drum'n Bass, and then I went into a massive 60's retro pop phase (Siesta, El Records, Le Grand Magistery, etc.)... and then life happened. I was really out of it for around ten or more years. Then in somewhere around 2012 I found The Clientele, and it all slowly started flowing back. In 2014, I started taking some musical initiatives... started a blog and the rest.
オルタナティブ・ミュージックは聴かなかったの。ちょっとディスコ・キッドだった。80年代にアムステルダムのディスコへ行ったわ。ティーンエイジャーだった。家では、ソフィスティーポップや ウエストコーストやKate Bushを聴いていました。80年代の終わりレイブ・シーンがスタートした頃にインディを聴き始めました。The Mock Turtles, The Milltown BrothersやAirheadなど。Slowdiveを突然聴いたり。Shoegazeにハマり、Britpopへ移行して。トリップ・ホップ、ドラムン・ベース、それからSiesta, El Records, Le Grand Magisteryレーベルのような60年代のレトロ・ポップにのめり込んだ。10年以上聴かなかったけれど、2012年にThe Clienteleが好きになって、少しずつ戻り始めた。2014年に音楽に取り組み始めて、ブログもスタートしました。

Stella : Ooh so many... The Clientele, Birdie, The Beatles, The Free Design, China Crisis, Moose, Steely Dan, Prefab Sprout, Men I Trust, Orchid Mantis, Knower, King Krule, etc.

Anorak Crumble : What do you think about indie pop all around the world at the moment ?
現在の世界中のインディ・ポップについて、どう思いますか？
Stella : It got very literal, in such respect, that it literally is all about being independent these days. As in even being independent from the independent labels ! The digital age has made it possible for everyone to produce music these days. The downside is that literally everyone does it ! Hahaha... which caused “Indie" an-sich to splinter into all kinds of sub-niches and cultures. So basically like splitting atoms... It’s all good though. I am all for the self-sufficiency and creative freedom of the DIY / bedroom pop movement. Anything is possible !
昨今、インディペンデントになることに紛れもなく尊敬します、インディペンデントなレーベルにも。デジタル時代で誰もが音楽を作ることが出来ます。小さなカルチャー達が"indie"を引き起こしています。良いと思います。私は自給自足でやっているし、DIYやベッドルーム・ポップ・ムーブメントのフリーダムをクリエイトしているわ。何でも出来るのよ！
