Anorak Crumble : Who is in Die Liga der gewöhnlichen Gentlemen ?
バンドDie Liga der gewöhnlichen Gentlemenについて教えて下さい。
Carsten Friedrichs : It's Heiko on Drums, Fabio plays the lead guitar, Tim on bass, Gunther plays keyboards and a lot of other instruments and me on rhythm guitar and vocals.
Heikoがドラム, Fabioがリード・ギターをプレイし、Timはベース, Guntherはキーボード, 多くのインストゥルメンタルやリズム・ギターは僕がやっている。
Anorak Crumble : How did you all meet ? Why and when did you decide to form this new band ?
どのようにして結成したのですか？いつ / 何故新しいバンドをやろうと決めたのですか？
Carsten Friedrichs : When my last band Superpunk broke up I had a few new songs which were pretty good. I asked my colleague and friend Gunther if he would like to arrange these songs with me. So we met in his living room, arranged theses songs and wrote some more songs. These songs were excellent. We decided to form a new band which became Die Liga der gewöhnlichen Gentlemen and we recorded the album. Gunther is not only a great musician but he also runs and owns Tapete Records. After a few drinks we signed to Tapete Records.
僕の最後のバンドSuperpunkが解散した時に、僕は何曲か凄く良い曲を書いていた。僕と一緒に、これらの曲をアレンジしてくれないかと、僕のバンド仲間や友達のGuntherに訊いてみた。それで、僕達は彼のリビング・ルームで会って、これらの曲をアレンジし、さらに何曲か作った。これらの曲はエクセレントだった。僕達は新しいバンドDie Liga der gewöhnlichen Gentlemenを結成することにして、アルバムをレコーディングしたんだ。Guntherはグレイトなミュージシャンではないけれど、彼はTapete

Anorak Crumble : How would you describe the music of Die Liga der gewöhnlichen Gentlemen ? Who writes the lyrics and what are they talking about ?
Die Liga der gewöhnlichen Gentlemenはどんなバンドですか？歌詞は誰が書いていますか？
Carsten Friedrichs : Our sound is a blend of styles we like : Punk, Northern Soul, Bubblegum, Ska, Yé-Yé, Garage Rock, Disco, Indie Pop, etc. I write the lyrics. I try to write little stories about things and people. For example about football
("Die Gentlemen Spieler"), about actors ("Kennst Du Werner Enke ?"), about crime ("Der beste Zechpreller der Welt"), about a donkey asylum ("Mrs. Svendsens Heim für Esel"), about little shops that sell matresses ("Der kleine Matratzenmarkt"), about happy spies
("Der glückliche Spion") and about frustration ("Frustration"). You see, songs about the usual stuff.

Anorak Crumble : Please tell us about your last record "Fuck Dance, let’s art !" !
最新作“Fuck Dance, let’s art !”について教えて下さい。
Carsten Friedrichs : We recorded "Fuck Dance, let’s art !" or "FDLA" as people like to call it at Zwanie Jonsons studio in Hamburg (by the way : you should check out Zwanie's music, you might like it.). It was mixed by Timo Blunck (Palais Schaumburg/Die
Zimmermänner) and Andreas Dorau did some backing vocals. "FDLA" has some pretty decent tunes on it and a great cover artwork. The picture is by Hank Schmidt in der Beek. Somehow "FDLA" managed to sneak into the Geman Album charts for one week. For a moment
we felt like stars. Then we realised it were the German album charts.
"Fuck Dance, let’s art !"や "FDLA"を、ハンブルクのZwanie Jonsonsスタジオ(Zwanieの音楽をチェックするべきだよ、多分好きだと思うよ)で録音した。ミックスは、Timo Blunck(Palais Schaumburg/Die Zimmermänner)が行って、バッキング・コーラスはAndreas Dorauが行った。"FDLA" は、まともなグレイト・カバー・アートワークで、写真はDer Beek出身のHank Schmidtだよ。"FDLA"
は一週間ドイツのアルバム・チャートに入っていた。今のところ僕達はスターだと感じているよ。ドイツのアルバム・チャートに過ぎないのだけどね。
Anorak Crumble : Can you tell us about about Tapete Records with which you released your records ? When did the label started ? Who is involved in the label ?
あなたがリリースしているTapete Recordsについて教えて下さい。レーベルは誰がスタートしたのですか？レーベルを設立したのは誰ですか？
Carsten Friedrichs : Tapete Records was founded by Gunther in 2002. I have the pleasure to work there as well. In all modesty : It´s a fantastic label. For me as a Popmusic enthusiast I can´t imagine a better job. I am a Monochrome Set fan since I was a teenager and now I am one of the first persons to hear new Monochrome Set songs. I even talked to Bid von Bid once or twice. Ace ! Readers of the Anorak Crumble fanzine might enjoy our new releases by Comet Gain, The Catenary Wires, Robert Forster or Simon Love for example and our reissues (like Roger Nichols & The Small Circle of Friends, The Times, Die Time Twisters etc.) Over the years we released a lot of great pop music. The same crew also runs a sister label called Bureau B which has it´s focus on experimental music like Cluster, Kreidler, Martin Rev or Faust.

あなたの全バンドJesterbells, Die Fünf Freunde, Bruno Ferrari Quintett, Superpunkについて教えて下さい。
Carsten Friedrichs : I always had the vision of playing glamorous, sophisticated popmusic. But most of the time the sound was more like Swell Maps with a trumpet. But this was cool too. I really enjoyed being in these bands and some other kids
liked our music too.
僕はいつでもグラマラスで洗練されたポップ・ミュージックをプレイするビジョンを持っていた。だけど、大体はトランペット付きのSwell Mapsみたいなサウンドになってしまう。だけどこれもクールなことだった。他のキッズが僕達の音楽を好きになってくれた。昔のバンドでもエンジョイしていたよ。
Anorak Crumble : Looking back, can you tell us about the Marsh-Marigold Records’ years in the end of the 80’s and early 90’s ? Any good memories you remember ?
昔を振り返って…80年代から90年代にかけてのMarsh-Marigold Recordsについて教えて下さい。良い思い出はありますか？
Carsten Friedrichs : In the late 80’s we found out that it was possible to release our own records. It was expensive but doable. So we saved our money to release one or two 7". That was the start of Marsh-Marigold. And the best thing about it
: People did buy these records. There were even articles in fanzines about it. How cool was that ? It was a lot of fun being in a Marsh-Marigold band. We played a lot, we played with great other bands from all over Europe, we met likeminded people from all
over the world. A small but worldwide scene with an unique style. That was great. A lot of good memories: Playing with Painting by Numbers in Darmstadt (one of the first Die Fünf Freunde shows), the Marsh Marigold Festivals, a short tour in France and Belgium
with the Acid House Kings, Caramel and Red Letter Day. It needs only three or four chords to have a lot of fun.
80年代終わりに僕達のレコードを出すことは可能だった。高かったけど可能だった。なのでお金を貯めて、1～2枚の7インチをリリースした。それがMarsh-Marigoldの始まりだった。ベストな事は : 人々がこれらのレコードを買えたこと。ファンジンのアーティクルにも載った。なんてクールだったんだろ。Marsh-Marigoldのバンドになることは楽しいことだった。沢山プレイした、ヨーロッパ中のグレイト・バンドとプレイした。世界中の良いマインドの人達と会った。小さかったけどユニークなスタイルのワールドワイドなシーンがあった。グレイトだった。沢山の思い出がある
: Darmstadt (初のDie Fünf Freundeのショウの1つ)でのPainting by Numbersと演奏したり、Marsh-Marigoldのフェスティバル、Acid House Kings, Caramel, Red Letter Dayとのフランスやベルギーでの小さなツアーも。楽しむのにスリーかフォー・コードが必要なだけだった。
Anorak Crumble : What band/artists are you influenced by ? What bands/artists do you listen to at the moment ?
どのようなバンド / アーティストに影響を受けていますか？どのようなバンド / アーティストを聴いていますか？
Carsten Friedrichs : One of my biggest, if not the biggest influence is Jonathan Richman. He is a genius. At least for me. My favourite album of all time is "Rockin'& Romance". At the moment I listen a lot to Tropicàlia acts like Os Mutantes
or Caetano Veloso. And I really like the Gary Olson album which will be out on Tapete Records in may. Also a lot on my turntable recently : Der Englische Garten and Nick Garrie´s "The Nightmare of J.B. Stanislas". And I just bought a reissue of "Too late to
turn back now" by Cornelius Bros & Sister Rose... such a great tune ! And some Adriano Celentano records which never fail to cheer me up.

1. Go into a pub
2. play live again.
And we will write new songs. We already wrote one new song. It's about men with great haircuts.
