Why/when did you formed band ?

Hello Toshiko and thank you for your questions! I've been writing my own songs since I was a small boy, I think I wrote my first song at the age of 8. Then I was in various local bands throughout my teenage years – always as the singer and guitarist. Towards the end of 2003 I was living in a bedsit in the student area of Leeds and I wrote a song called Getting Special and it was the first song of mine where I thought – wow, that actually sounds good enough for me to form a “proper” band! In early 2004 I played a few solo gigs with an electric guitar and had a good reaction so I recruited a bassist and drummer and came up with the name The Lodger. This is a term used to describe someone who rents a small property in the UK, so it summed up my situation. I also considered “The Bedsitter” too.

Please tell us about your past albums "Grown-Ups (2006)", "Life is Sweet (2008)" and "Flashbacks (2010)" on Slumberland Records.Are there.any concepts or good memories etc?

Many many memories! We released our first 7” in mid 2005 - “Many Thanks For Your Honest Opinion” and I started writing loads of songs around this time and quickly had enough for an album. We went in the studio in Sheffield and recorded everything I'd written. That was the Grown-Ups album that ended up coming out on Slumberland (but also came out on 7 labels in different countries!). Like all bands do, we got into a cycle of touring and writing and recording which led to the next two albums. By the end of it all I was very tired and needed a bit of time off! This became 11 years... Although I did a side project called The Birthday Kiss and also played guitar in This Many Boyfriends and produced lots of bands. I also set up a music teaching business.

You will released the brand-new album."Cul-de-Sac of Love" on Italian label We Were Never Being Boring Records.Why did you sign to this label ? Are there any consepts ?

The new album is actually a co-release between 4 labels. Philophobia in the UK which is run by an old friend of mine; Pretty Olivia in Spain; We Were Never Being Boring which is a collective in Italy and USA and also Lazyperfection in Japan. I wanted to try to a team effort this time and support indie labels in these uncertain times! It had to be released on 12” because I'm a vinyl fan so we split the costs and the stock between us so we all have some records to sell. The Spanish copies sold out in an hour! I can't wait for people to hear it.

How's the life in Leeds, Yorkshire?

actually live in a small town called Ilkley now which is about 25km from Leeds. Near the Yorkshire Dales. It's a beautiful place full of hills and moors and nature. I enjoy birdwatching and it's very good for that! It's a quiet place but it's still close to Leeds for socialising and gigs etc (when gigs come back!). I've got a house with a small recording studio set up too. Most of the new album was recorded and mixed in the room I'm sat in now. Just a spare bedroom.

it might sound cheesy but my message would be THANKS so much for giving the first single Dual Lives such a warm welcome after we've been away for so long and I hope this new album is up to scratch, tried my best. The support really does mean a lot to me. As long as there are listeners, there will be new music.
