Formed in Glasgow, Scotland, led by Lloyd Cole in 1982. They signed to Polydor Records and they released the debut single "Perfect Skin" and the first album "Rattlesnakes" in 1984. They released the second album "Easy Pieces" which was produced by Clive Ranger and Alan Winstanley (who had previously produced Madness and Teardrop Explodes) in 1985. They released the third album "Mainstream", which contained UK Top 40 single hit "Jennifer She Said". In 1989, the band decided to split up. In 2006, Scottish band Camera Obscura released the song "Lloyd, I'm Ready to Be Heartbroken" as an answer song to the Commotions' "(Are You) Ready to Be Heartbroken ?". Cole moved to New York to pursue a solo career with Polydor/Capitol Records.
