English techno-rock band formed in Manchester in 1980 by Bernard Sumner (vocals / guitar), Peter Hook (bass) and Stephen Morris (drums). The band formed after the demise of Joy Division, following the suicide of lead singer Ian Curtis. Gillian Gilbert joined the band as a keyboardist later that year. They were the flagship band for Manchester-based independent record label Factory Records and the night-club The Hacienda. They also collaborated with graphic designer Peter Saville. They released ten albums including "Power, Corruption & Lies (1983)", "Low Life (1985)", "Brotherhood (1986)" and "Waiting for The Siren's Call (2005)". Their fifth album "Technique (1990)" was recorded in Ibiza-island and their sixth album "Republic (1992)" was the last studio album for eight years until 2001's "Get Ready". Their song "Shellshock" was featured on the soundtrack album of "Pretty In Pink (1986)". The song "Blue Monday 1988" was remixed by Quincy Jones and the song "Confusion" was collaborated with Arthur Baker, both American producer & musician. In 1990 they recorded the official song of the England national football team's World Cup song "World in Motion", under the band name EnglandNewOrder. The soundtrack of "24 Hour Party People" featured their track "Here to Stay", produced by The Chemical Brothers. In 2015 the band released the album "Music Complete " without Hook. The band members also had side projects including Electronic (Sumner with Johnny Marr from The Smiths), Revenge & Monaco (Hook) and The Other Two (Morris and Gilbert).
