Shop Assistants - Safety net & I don't want to be friends with you & All day long


Le groupe s'est d'abord appelé Buba and the Shop Assistants et a changé de nom après son premier single, "Something to do" sorti en 1984 (sur lequel on retrouve Stephen et Aggi des Pastels), pour devenir ensuite Shop Assistants. Formé à Edimbourg, en Ecosse, en 1983, il était composé d'Alex Taylor (chant), David Keegan (guitare), Sarah Kneale (basse), Laura McPhail (batterie) et Ann Donald (batterie). Il publie ses premiers singles sur le label de Bristol The Subway Organization avant de rejoindre 53rd & 3rd, un label co-fondé par David Keegan. En 1986, Shop Assistants rejoint le label Blue Guitar / Chrysalis qui édite un single et son premier et unique album. Cette année-là, il participe aussi à la compilation "C-86" publiée par le NME. Après deux singles sortis en 1990, David Keegan quitte le groupe et rejoint les Pastels. Ce sera la fin des Shop Assistants, groupe qui reste l'un des meilleurs représentants de la noisy pop.

The band was first named Buba and the Shop Assistants and changed his name to Shop Assistants after releasing its first single in 1984 (which featured Stephen and Aggi from The Pastels). Formed in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1983, it was comprised by Alex Taylor (vocals), David Keegan (guitar), Sarah Kneale (bass), Laura McPhail (drums) and Ann Donald (drums). Shop Assistants published their first singles via the Bristol label The Subway Organization and then joined 53rd & 3rd, label co-founded by David Keegan. In 1986, the band joined the label Blue Guitar / Chrysalis who released one single and its first and only album. They also contributed the NME compilation "C-86". In 1990, the band released two singles and disbanded when David Keegan joined The Pastels. Alex Taylor also played with The Motorcycle Boy with ex-members from Meat Whiplash. Ann Donald also joined The Fizzbombs. Shop Assistants remains one of the best noisy pop band.
