Scottish rock band, formed in 1982 in Glasgow by Bobby Gillespie and Jim Beattie. They signed to Creation Records and released two 7" singles "All Fall Down (1985)" and "Crystal Crescent (1986)", and the B-side "Velocity Girl" was featured on NME's C86 compilation. The debut album "Sonic Flower Groove" was released on Elevation (Creation / WEA Records) in 1987. The band were first introduced to the acid house scene by Alan McGee in 1988 and met up with DJ Andrew Weatherall at a rave. "Loaded" and "Come Together" from the album "Screamadelica (1991)" became their first major hit in the early 90's. They released six albums on Creation Records, including the fourth album "Give Up, But Don't Give Up (1994)" with The Rolling Stones-influenced sound. The album "XTRMNTR (2000)" featured multiple guest appearances, including The Chemical Brothers, New Order's Bernard Sumner, and former My Bloody Valentine guitarist Kevin Sheilds. Bobby was a drummer of The Jesus and Mary Chain in the early-80's. Jim formed Spirea X and later Adventures in Stereo in the 90's. Martin Duffy (keyboards) joined Felt and also played with The Charlatans, following the death of founding member Rob Collins.
