The Mighty Lemon Drops - My biggest thrill & Inside out

On a trop souvent réduit The Mighty Lemon Drops à un simple ersatz d'Echo and The Bunnymen. Séduit par leurs mélodies puissantes, le label Chrysalis/Blue Guitar avait flairé le bon coup et a immédiatement signé le groupe formé au printemps 1985 à Wolverhampton. On retiendra du groupe anglais "Happy head", leur premier album absolument parfait, les non moins bons deux suivants, "Out of hand" et "World without end", leurs magnifiques singles "Like an angel", "The other side of you", "Out of hand", "Fall down (like the rain)", et bien sûr les sublimes "My biggest thrill" et "Inside out". Ces premiers opus, enregistrés entre 1985 et 1988 et fortement empreints d'influences du meilleur des 60's, marquent la période la plus créative du groupe. Le reste de leur carrière jusqu'à la séparation en 1992 est, l'on dira, moins convaincant et moins à notre goût.

The Mighty Lemon Drops were formed in 1985 in Wolverhampton, England. They immediately signed to Chrysalis/Blue Guitar and released their terrific first album "Happy head" the next year. Two albums, "Out of hand" and "World without end" will be also out in 1987 and 1988. Between 1985 and 1988, they released their best stuff as the brilliant singles "Like an angel", "The other side of you", "Out of hand", "Fall down (like the rain)", and of course the wondeful "My biggest thrill" et "Inside out". Their music was influenced by the best of the 60's music. The band splitted in 1992.
